Feiganspan P.o.n. Beer Flat Top Can

Newark's Historic P.O.N. Beer Can

The Feigenspan P.O.N. Beer flat top represents one of the signature mid-century releases from the Christian Feigenspan Brewing Company of Newark, New Jersey. The prominent "P.O.N." lettering stands for "Pride of Newark," a trademark and rallying cry that defined the company's identity across bottles, cans, and regional advertisements.

Manufactured by the American Can Company, this can was distributed heavily across the Mid-Atlantic and New York metropolitan markets. Feigenspan was a major fixture of Newark's industrial brewing district, standing alongside its neighbor and chief rival, P. Ballantine & Sons. The can design features bold, clean typography alongside classic company branding, reflecting the era's transition toward modern consumer packaging.

Among breweriana collectors, several variations of the P.O.N. Beer can are recognized. These production differences include early instructional panels along the seam, mandatory Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) legal statements, and minor layout modifications in the brewery text and can manufacturing marks.

Feigenspan operated independently until its acquisition by P. Ballantine & Sons during the 1940s, which brought an end to standalone Feigenspan operations. Because of this corporate absorption, cans bearing the original Christian Feigenspan name serve as important historical artifacts of New Jersey's pre-war and wartime brewing landscape.
