Feigenspan P. O. N. Light Beer Quart

Newark's Iconic P.O.N. Quart

The Feigenspan P. O. N. Light Beer Quart represents a standout piece of Mid-Atlantic brewing history from the Christian Feigenspan Brewing Company of Newark, New Jersey. The prominent "P.O.N." lettering on the label represents "Pride of Newark," a slogan and trademark that became synonymous with the brewery's identity across its packaging, signage, and regional advertising campaigns.

During its operation, Feigenspan stood as one of the premier industrial brewing giants in Newark's competitive market, operating alongside its neighbor P. Ballantine & Sons, which ultimately acquired the Feigenspan brewing facility in 1943. Because the brewery was absorbed during that era, cans bearing the original Chr. Feigenspan name serve as coveted relics from Newark's pre-war industrial landscape.

The quart container features a bold graphic layout and classic typography that highlight the P.O.N. insignia alongside the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) notice. Among breweriana enthusiasts, quart-sized cans from this era are particularly celebrated for their commanding display presence. Known variations of the Feigenspan quart exist, showcasing subtle differences in mandatory legal statements, manufacturer markings, and side-panel arrangements. Today, this can remains a prized centerpiece for collectors specializing in large-format containers and New Jersey breweriana.
