Fitger's Beer Cone Top Can

Fitger's Beer Cone Top History

Hailing from the historic shores of Lake Superior, the Fitger's Beer cone top represents one of the premier artifacts from the Fitger Brewing Company of Duluth, Minnesota. Fitger's held a prominent place in regional brewing, surviving Prohibition and establishing widespread brand recognition across the Upper Midwest with its striking, metallic-accented packaging.

Among breweriana collectors, this can is celebrated for its notable design variations. Depending on the distribution territory and regional alcohol regulations of the era, the can was issued with different alcohol statement markings, including versions designating 3.2% alcohol by weight and full-strength editions. Collectors also track multiple variations based on bottom profiling, where scarce flat-bottom examples appear alongside standard concave designs. Furthermore, mandatory Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) labeling denotes its manufacture during an important era of federal tax regulation.

In the collecting community, Fitger's cone tops have generated major headlines through high-profile finds. An auction discovery in Northern Wisconsin surfaced a small cache of high-grade strong beer versions that had remained hidden away for decades, commanding top-dollar interest among regional specialists. Today, the Fitger's Beer cone top remains a centerpiece for collectors focused on Minnesota brewing history and classic Great Lakes breweriana.
