Fitger's Nordlager Natural Beer Cone Top Can

Fitger's Nordlager Cone Top

Brewed by the historic Fitger Brewing Company along the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota, the Fitger's Nordlager Natural Beer cone top can represents a classic chapter in Upper Midwest brewing history. Originating from a brewery site established in the mid-19th century, Fitger became an industrial powerhouse in northern Minnesota, successfully navigating through Prohibition before resuming its regional distribution of packaged beer.

The Nordlager brand was developed to highlight traditional Germanic brewing practices and the brewery's northern identity. Designed with the recognizable Fitger's shield motif and prominent "Natural Beer" labeling, the package was distributed across Minnesota and neighboring states. The container features Continental Can Company's low-profile construction.

For breweriana collectors, the can is celebrated as a staple of Minnesota brewing heritage. Known variations of the can exist among surviving specimens, differing in their regulatory wording—such as Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) notices—as well as statutory alcohol content statements required by different regional markets. These subtle labeling revisions make the Nordlager design a focal point for regional specialist collections.
