Fort Pitt Extra Special Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Fort Pitt Baltimore Flat Top Can

The Fort Pitt Extra Special Premium Beer flat top can represents an important transition in the history of the Fort Pitt brewing label. Originally founded in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, the Fort Pitt Brewing Company grew into a major regional powerhouse across the Mid-Atlantic and Rust Belt markets, widely recognized for its famous advertising slogan, "Fort Pitt—That's It!"

Following labor disruptions and corporate shifts during the late 1950s, production of the Fort Pitt brand relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. Cans featuring the Baltimore mandatory brewery line document this distinct chapter in the label's operational lineage.

Design and Branding

The can's graphic layout highlights the brewery's premium tier, pairing bold "Fort Pitt" typography with the "Extra Special Premium Beer" banner. The design incorporates traditional heraldic emblems and clean mid-century elements, maintaining the recognizable identity long associated with the nameplate while providing a sharp, polished appearance for retail display.

Collector Significance

Within breweriana collecting, cans bearing the Baltimore address are valued artifacts reflecting the post-war consolidation and regional migration of legacy American beer labels. While Fort Pitt is historically tied to Western Pennsylvania, Baltimore-era containers illustrate how regional brands adapted and endured beyond their original home markets.

Multiple lithograph and mandatory text variations are known to exist across different canning runs, making this can a popular inclusion for collectors dedicated to documenting the complete evolution of the Fort Pitt brand.
