Fort Schuyler Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Fort Schuyler Lager Flat Top

The Fort Schuyler Lager Beer flat top can represents an iconic piece of Upstate New York's storied brewing heritage. Bearing the name of the 18th-century military fortification along the Mohawk River that preceded the founding of Utica, the Fort Schuyler brand carries deep historical resonance in the region.

Utica was historically one of the most active brewing hubs in New York State, sustaining dozens of operations that served communities along the Erie Canal. The Fort Schuyler name shifted across several ownership entities over the decades—ranging from the original Fort Schuyler Brewing Company to the Utica Brewing Company and later the West End Brewing Company—yet the label remained a consistent fixture throughout central and northern New York.

Visually, the can features bold mid-century typography complemented by the traditional brand crest. Many printings of this container featured the catchy regional marketing slogan, "Don't Say Beer Say Fort Schuyler – Everytime", displayed alongside the main brand graphics.

For breweriana collectors, the can is notable for its production variations across different manufacturing runs, primarily fabricated by the Continental Can Company. These variations display differences in mandatory text placement, manufacturer plant codes, and minor design adjustments across the face panel. The Fort Schuyler Lager flat top stands as a quintessential artifact of Mohawk Valley brewing history and regional container design.
