Forty Niner Premium Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Forty Niner Flat Top Overview

The Forty Niner Premium Lager Beer flat top was produced by Pacific Brewing Inc. of Oakland, California. Drawing direct inspiration from California's Gold Rush history, the can features mid-century typography alongside themed miner and prospector motifs celebrating 1849 lore.

Manufactured by the American Can Company, the container was packaged during Pacific Brewing's brief operational tenure in the late 1950s. Pacific Brewing operated out of the historic East Bay facility that previously housed Golden West Brewing Company and Goebel Brewing Company of California. Because Pacific Brewing Inc. was in business for a very brief window between 1958 and 1959, surviving cans bearing this Oakland mandatory are difficult to locate and actively sought after by West Coast breweriana enthusiasts.

Variations exist across the Forty Niner brand line, including subtle differences in plant identifiers, mandatory text arrangements, and separate regional production runs. Nonetheless, the Oakland Pacific Brewing issue remains an iconic artifact of post-war Northern California brewing history.
