Fox Deluxe Beer Flat Top Can

Grand Rapids Fox Deluxe Flat Top

The Fox Deluxe Beer flat top can produced by the Fox Deluxe Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan, holds a notable place in mid-twentieth-century Midwestern brewing history. The brewery operated out of the historic Michigan Street facility that originally housed the Grand Rapids Brewing Company, acquired by Chicago's Peter Fox Brewing Company to expand its regional manufacturing footprint and distribution network.

The can's visual presentation features bold Fox Deluxe branding highlighted by metallic gold accents, deep red tones, and the company's trademark insignia. Earlier runs from the Grand Rapids plant include the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) mandatory statement, placing their origins squarely within the federal taxation labeling era.

Throughout the brewery's operating years in Grand Rapids, several label variations were manufactured. Known variations display subtle differences in text layout, metallic sheen, patent markings, and the formatting of side-panel opening instructions. Special olive drab versions were also produced during World War II for military distribution.

The Grand Rapids brewery building itself became a piece of local lore due to its remarkably solid construction, even surviving initial wrecking ball impacts during urban redevelopment before eventually making way for state municipal offices. For breweriana enthusiasts, the Grand Rapids Fox Deluxe flat top stands as a quintessential artifact from Michigan's rich mid-century brewing scene.
