Fox Deluxe Bock Flat Top Can

Chicago's Fox Deluxe Bock Can

The Fox Deluxe Bock flat top can represents a notable piece of Midwest breweriana, produced by the Peter Fox Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois. Established following the repeal of Prohibition by the Fox family, the West Monroe Street brewery grew rapidly to become one of the city's prominent post-repeal operations.

Under the Fox Deluxe label, the brewery packaged both its flagship lager and seasonal specialties. Bock was traditionally packaged for early spring release, meaning production runs were considerably shorter and total distribution was far more restricted than year-round lager offerings. Because of this limited seasonal output, surviving Fox Deluxe Bock cans are significantly harder for collectors to acquire than standard Fox Deluxe flat tops.

The can's graphic design prominently highlights the Fox Deluxe branding alongside traditional bock labeling. Over the course of the label's history, the Peter Fox Brewing Company produced multiple variations of the can, with differences found in the mandatory tax and brewery statements, metallic finish details, and manufacturing marks. While Peter Fox later expanded operations to additional facilities in Michigan and Indiana, cans showcasing the original Chicago brewery signature remain central to the history of Illinois brewing.
