Fox Deluxe Waukesha Beer Flat Top Can

Mid-Century Waukesha Scenic Flat Top

This mid-1950s flat top beer can represents a vibrant era of outdoor and scenic breweriana. Produced as a standard 12-ounce steel container, the design features a picturesque split recreation scene set against a lake backdrop, depicting a sailboat gliding across northern waters at the top and a motorboat towing a water skier across the lower portion. Prominently framed across the center banner is the bold Fox De Luxe branding alongside the regional identifier "Waukesha Beer," accompanied by a lower ribbon declaring "Brewed with Wisconsin's World Famous Waukesha Water" printed in distinct black lettering.

Originally launched following the repeal of Prohibition by the Peter Fox Brewing Company in Chicago, the Fox De Luxe label served as the company's flagship brand. Marketed heavily across the Midwest as a premium, refreshing lager, promotional campaigns frequently highlighted the purity of its ingredients and the celebrated mineral waters of the region. As the brand expanded beyond Illinois, packaging incorporated regional ties to Wisconsin's renowned spring waters, helping Fox De Luxe maintain a strong presence in taverns and retail shelves throughout the heartland before broader industry consolidation altered its distribution.

The can is directly tied to Peter Fox's mid-century expansion into Waukesha, Wisconsin. The Waukesha facility traced its heritage back to the late nineteenth century as the Waukesha Imperial Spring Brewing Company, which later operated as the Fox Head Brewing Company. Long celebrated for utilizing the city's natural spring water, the Waukesha brewery became integrated with Peter Fox Brewing in the mid-1950s. The plant operated under this corporate umbrella until the early 1960s, when the business transitioned through reorganization and the facility was ultimately acquired by the G. Heileman Brewing Company.

Among breweriana enthusiasts, this can holds enduring appeal due to its colorful mid-century pictorial lithography. Packaging featuring outdoor activities such as water skiing and boating provides notable crossover interest for collectors of sporting themes and regional Wisconsin labels alike. Documented variations in the banner typography and coloring further enhance its stature among specialists devoted to the rich legacy of Midwestern brewing history.
