Fox Head 400 Flat Top Heritage

The Fox Head 400 Beer Flat Top Can represents a notable chapter in Wisconsin brewing history, marking the transition of the historic Fox Head label under the stewardship of the G. Heileman Brewing Company in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Originally recognized for its origins in Waukesha, the brand built widespread regional recognition around its flagship "400" line and charismatic fox mascot, frequently promoting its heritage with slogans such as "Brewed Only in Wisconsin".

Following corporate consolidation during the mid-twentieth century, production and packaging operations shifted under the Fox Head Brewing Company division in La Crosse. This container showcases the classic graphic identity that made Fox Head a familiar presence among Midwestern beer drinkers. The design prominently features the illustrated fox mascot alongside bold "400" typography and vintage mid-century layout elements.

For breweriana collectors, the La Crosse mandatory markings make this can particularly interesting. It stands as a physical artifact from an era when major regional brewers acquired legacy regional names to retain established customer loyalty. Over its production span, several variations were manufactured by fabricators such as the Continental Can Company, displaying minor differences in mandatory phrasing, canning codes, and text alignment. These subtle variations provide collectors with meaningful insight into the shifting operations and industrial history of Wisconsin brewing.
