Fuhrmann And Schmidt Pilsener Beer Cone Top Can

F&S Pilsener Beer Cone Top

The Fuhrmann And Schmidt Pilsener Beer cone top can represents an iconic piece of breweriana from Pennsylvania's historic Anthracite coal region. Produced by the Fuhrmann & Schmidt Brewing Company—widely recognized by its "F&S" monogram in Shamokin, Pennsylvania—this container served local coal communities and expanded distribution networks throughout the mid-Atlantic.

Design and Manufacture

Manufactured using Continental Can Company's Cap-Sealed design, the can showcases bold crimson, cream, and metallic gold lithography centered around the brewery's trademark circular monogram crest. The front panel highlights the classic "Fuhrmann & Schmidt Pilsener Beer" branding in stylized lettering, combining industrial mid-century graphic styling with traditional Pennsylvania brewing heraldry.

Documented Variations

Collectors recognize several distinct variations across production runs:

• Tax Statements: The can appears with mandatory "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) labeling as well as non-IRTP text following changes to federal regulations.
• Distributor Credits: While Shamokin is designated as the primary home brewery, some cans feature side-panel distribution notices crediting regional distributor branches, such as New York.
• Cone Profiles: Examples exist in both low-profile and high-profile cone variations.
• Military Packaging: Specialized olive-drab versions were manufactured during wartime for distribution to armed forces overseas.

Regional Heritage

Fuhrmann & Schmidt was one of the most prominent and resilient independent brewing operations in Central Pennsylvania. Its Pilsener cone top remains a centerpiece for regional breweriana enthusiasts and collectors focusing on mid-century American packaging history.
