Fuhrmann And Schmidt Pilsener Beer Cone Top Can

Shamokin's F&S Pilsener Can

Produced by the Fuhrmann & Schmidt Brewing Company of Shamokin, Pennsylvania, the Fuhrmann And Schmidt Pilsener Beer cone top can is a celebrated artifact of Pennsylvania's Anthracite coal region. Widely recognized by the brewery's signature "F&S" monogram, the company was an industrial cornerstone in Northumberland County, supplying coal mining communities and expanding into broader distribution networks across the mid-Atlantic.

The can was manufactured utilizing Continental Can Company's Cap-Sealed design. Its graphic presentation features bold crimson, cream, and metallic gold lithography centered on the brewery's circular monogram crest. Stylized lettering boldly highlights "Fuhrmann & Schmidt Pilsener Beer," merging traditional Pennsylvania brewing heraldry with mid-century commercial design.

Collectors document multiple variations across manufacturing runs. Examples exist with mandatory "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statements, as well as subsequent releases without the tax statement. Variations in cone shaping also exist, encompassing low-profile and high-profile cone structures. While Shamokin is named as the primary origin, certain cans feature side-panel distribution credits designating outside branches, including New York. Additionally, olive-drab versions were produced for military distribution to armed forces personnel overseas during wartime.

As one of Central Pennsylvania's most notable independent brewing operations, Fuhrmann & Schmidt produced a container that remains a premier display piece for regional breweriana specialists and collectors of classic American beverage packaging.
