Fyfe & Drum Extra Lyte Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Fyfe & Drum Extra Lyte Overview

The Fyfe & Drum Extra Lyte Beer 12 oz tab top can was produced by the Genesee Brewing Company of Rochester, New York. Bearing patriotic imagery reminiscent of early American fife and drum corps, the brand served as one of Genesee's standout entries in the regional market.

A central feature of the packaging design is the stylized spelling of "Lyte". The brand's colonial aesthetic stood out on shelves, utilizing traditional motifs, scrollwork banners, and drum iconography.

For breweriana collectors, Fyfe & Drum cans offer several interesting points of study. Known variations exist across production runs, with notable differences in text placement. On some cans, the "Extra Lyte" designation is stamped across the top lid, while on other examples, the wording appears printed on the front face of the main label. Differences in manufacturing materials also occur, with variations found in both steel and aluminum constructions.

The Fyfe & Drum label remains a recognized chapter in Genesee's packaging history. The popularity of the original branding eventually prompted the Genesee Brew House in Rochester to revive the Fyfe & Drum name for commemorative releases celebrating the brewery's heritage.
