Gamecock Genuine Cream Ale 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Cumberland's Gamecock Cream Ale

The Gamecock Genuine Cream Ale can was produced by the Cumberland Brewing Company of Cumberland, Maryland. Operating on North Centre Street, Cumberland Brewing served as a cornerstone of the regional economy and brewing heritage in western Maryland, distributing popular labels throughout the mid-Atlantic market.

The can is distinguished by its classic graphic layout featuring the bold illustration of a fighting gamecock paired with prominent typography for the Gamecock and Genuine Cream Ale branding. The bold fighting rooster motif served as a key marketing device across the brewery's Gamecock product line, offering strong visual impact on retail shelves.

Within breweriana collecting circles, this can is celebrated for its regional significance and aesthetic appeal. Several variations exist across manufacturing runs, featuring differences such as varying lettering color shades and diverse state tax stamps applied to the lids for distribution in specific regional markets. Following the end of brewing operations in Cumberland, cans bearing the Gamecock insignia have remained sought-after artifacts of Maryland's independent brewing legacy.
