Gamecock Genuine Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Gamecock Beer: Cumberland Heritage

Produced by the Cumberland Brewing Company of Cumberland, Maryland, the Gamecock Genuine Premium Beer tab top can represents a memorable piece of mid-Atlantic brewing history. Cumberland Brewing Company, located on North Centre Street, was one of the major commercial brewing operations in western Maryland, recognized for flagship labels like Old Export alongside its Gamecock brand lineup.

The label art is characterized by its bold fighting rooster illustration and prominent title lettering. Designed to stand out on retail shelves, the fierce gamecock motif was a consistent branding anchor across Cumberland's beers and ales marketed throughout Maryland and surrounding regional territories.

Among breweriana enthusiasts, this can is especially prized for its graphic appeal and regional heritage. Collectors have identified variations across production runs, including different lettering color schemes on the label and various state tax stamps applied to lids for distribution in states requiring dedicated tax compliance. Following the closure of the Cumberland facility, cans bearing the Gamecock emblem have remained sought-after artifacts documenting mid-century independent brewing in Maryland.
