Gettelman Milwaukee Beer Cone Top Can

Gettelman Milwaukee Cone Top

Produced by the A. Gettelman Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Gettelman Milwaukee Beer cone top can represents a notable chapter in Midwestern brewing heritage. Gettelman held a distinguished place as the smallest member of Milwaukee's historic "Big Five" breweries, standing alongside Schlitz, Pabst, Blatz, and Miller prior to its acquisition by Miller.

Brewery Heritage and Significance

Originating in the Menomonee River Valley, Gettelman developed a dedicated following across the Upper Midwest. The brewery was renowned for memorable marketing efforts, including its famous "$1,000 Beer" pure-ingredient challenge, as well as introducing enduring brands such as Milwaukee's Best. Gettelman maintained independent operations for over a century, providing collectors with a focused lineage of regional breweriana.

Can Design and Collector Points

The Gettelman Milwaukee Beer cone top can emphasizes the brand's local identity with bold lettering highlighting the Milwaukee namesake. Featuring a high-profile cone top structure, the 12-ounce can displays clean lithography and balanced color blocking.

For can enthusiasts, several manufacturing nuances distinguish examples found across the hobby:

• Tax Statement Variations: Production runs span changes in federal labeling requirements, with some examples displaying the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement while others lack the tax notice.
• Mandatory Text Adjustments: Subtle variations exist in the legal mandatory text, distributor notices, and formatting around the seam and lower rim.
• Lithographic and Color Nuances: Subtle variations in metallic sheen, background shading, and crest details can be identified across different canning orders.

Given Gettelman's regional footprint and its eventual absorption into Miller, this cone top remains a highly desirable staple for Wisconsin breweriana collections.
