Gex Holburg Premium Light Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Gex Holburg Premium Light Can

The Gex Holburg Premium Light Beer tab top can represents a notable chapter in American private-label brewing history. Marketed for the Government Employees Exchange (G.E.X.) retail chain, the Holburg brand relied on regional contract packaging. This specific issue bears the mandatory statement of the Hofbrau Brewing Company of Allentown, Pennsylvania, a trade name utilized by the historic Horlacher Brewing Company.

During the postwar era, Horlacher supplemented its proprietary lineup by producing specialty and house brands for department stores, supermarkets, and private labels. Cans produced under the Hofbrau identity in Allentown hold strong crossover appeal among collectors specializing in Pennsylvania breweriana as well as private-label retail brands. Tab top examples from this specific bottling arrangement are infrequently seen on the market and have commanded strong four-figure prices in dedicated breweriana auctions.

Variations exist across the Holburg and G.E.X. canning runs, featuring different mandatory brewery listings and minor graphic adjustments. The Allentown Hofbrau tab top remains one of the standout regional iterations for collectors documenting the brand's distribution history.
