Gibbons Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Gibbons Premium Flat Top Can

Produced for The Lion, Inc. of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the Gibbons Premium Beer flat top can represents a defining chapter of mid-century regional American breweriana. Following the repeal of Prohibition, The Lion adopted Gibbons as its premier flagship brand, quickly establishing widespread popularity across Pennsylvania's anthracite coal region and the broader Mid-Atlantic market.

The exterior graphics feature classic mid-century presentation, highlighted by traditional heraldic crest motifs, crisp lettering, and the brand's enduring advertising catchphrase, "If It's Gibbons... It's Good!" Designed for retail shelves and local taprooms, the can became a familiar sight across northeastern Pennsylvania.

Variations of this flat top can exist among collectors, reflecting subtle differences introduced across manufacturing runs. These differences include variations in brewery mandatory text, changes in manufacturer marks from different canning suppliers, and differing state-mandated alcohol disclaimer statements. The Lion's status as one of Pennsylvania's few surviving legacy breweries makes the Gibbons flat top an important artifact of independent brewing history.
