In the 1940s, brewery executive Alvin C. Gluek Sr. developed a specialized brewing process for malt liquor, which was officially granted a United States patent in 1948. Gluek utilized this patented process to market "Stite," establishing one of the earliest widely distributed malt liquor brands in the country. For this packaging, the brewery utilized foil and paper labels affixed to the crowntainer body, displaying the prominent "Stite" trademark alongside traditional Gluek branding.

Because beverage labeling and distribution regulations differed across state jurisdictions, variations of the Stite label exist. These differences generally center on mandatory state alcohol statements—ranging from specific percentage disclosures to tax legends—along with minor adjustments in brewery address text across production runs.
