Goetz Country Club Lager Beer Cone Top Can

Goetz Country Club Cone Top

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company under their "Cap Sealed" line, the Goetz Country Club Lager Beer cone top represents a prominent chapter in Midwestern brewing history. The container was produced for the M. K. Goetz Brewing Company of St. Joseph, Missouri, showcasing the brewery's flagship Country Club label.

Founded in 1859 along Blacksnake Creek by German immigrant Michael Karl Goetz, the brewery expanded over decades to become one of the region's largest brewing operations. The Country Club moniker became an enduring trademark for the company, even helping the business survive Prohibition when marketed as a non-alcoholic cereal beverage before returning to full-strength packaging.

For breweriana enthusiasts, this can is recognized for its bold graphic presentation, which pairs prominent "Country Club" typography with metallic accents and clear brewery identification from St. Joseph. Over the course of its manufacturing run, Continental Can Company produced several variations of the design. These variations include differences in neck contour—such as high-profile and bulb-top styles—as well as adjustments in metallic gold detailing, wording, and mandatory text layout across the back panel.

Beyond the brewery's commercial packaging, the Goetz family left a lasting cultural imprint on the region. Brewery leadership was instrumental in preserving historical landmarks in St. Joseph, including championing the preservation and restoration of the famous Pony Express stables. Today, the Goetz Country Club cone top remains a highly desirable staple for collectors specializing in Missouri breweriana and classic mid-century lithographed metal packaging.
