Goetz Country Club Stout Malt Liquor Small Can

Country Club Stout Malt Liquor

The Goetz Country Club Stout Malt Liquor small can represents a landmark label from the M. K. Goetz Brewing Company of St. Joseph, Missouri. Goetz was instrumental in establishing and popularizing the malt liquor category in the United States, positioning Country Club as a refined, upscale beverage across national marketing campaigns.

This smaller 8-ounce container size, often referred to by collectors as a split or nip size, was introduced alongside the standard 12-ounce offerings to cater to portion-conscious consumers and cocktail mixer uses. The "Stout Malt Liquor" designation reflects historical beverage labeling practices designed to denote higher-strength specialty malt brews under state and federal alcohol regulations.

The graphic design features the signature Country Club shield insignia, bold typography, and metallic background tones associated with Goetz's mid-century branding. Known variations exist across different manufacturing runs, showcasing slight design differences in can maker marks—including containers produced by American Can Company under the Keglined process and Continental Can Company—as well as text changes that reflect mandatory alcohol statements and the brewery's subsequent acquisition by the Pearl Brewing Company.
