Gold Medal Beer Cone Top Can

Stegmaier Gold Medal Cone Top

The Gold Medal Beer cone top can represents a classic piece of Pennsylvania breweriana from the Stegmaier Brewing Company of Wilkes-Barre. The "Gold Medal" designation pays homage to the series of top honors Stegmaier earned at prestigious international expositions in European cities during the early 20th century. The brewery incorporated these accolades directly into its branding, making the medals a central design feature of its packaging.

Manufactured on Continental Can Company's Cap-Sealed can design, these containers feature high-profile cones and prominent Stegmaier lithography. The label art showcases ornate typography, the signature seal, and detailed illustrations of the award medals won across Europe.

Collectors recognize several design and graphic variations across the Gold Medal cone top run. These include differences in the bottom lid profiles, variations in the Continental Can Company manufacturing and patent text panels, and distinct coloring in the seal and medal artwork. Beyond standard civilian releases, a military-spec olive drab variation was produced during World War II for distribution to U.S. armed forces serving overseas, replacing the metallic and bright commercial lithography with non-reflective camouflage paint.

Because of Stegmaier's robust presence in the Mid-Atlantic market, the Gold Medal cone top serves as an essential representation of northeastern Pennsylvania brewing heritage.
