Goldcrest 51 Select Beer Cone Top Can

Memphis Goldcrest 51 Cone Top

The Goldcrest 51 Select Beer cone top represents a celebrated chapter in Southern brewing history, hailing from the Tennessee Brewing Company in Memphis, Tennessee. Originally founded by John Wolfgang Schorr, the Tennessee Brewing Company grew into one of the largest brewing establishments in the South. Following the repeal of Prohibition, the brewery introduced the Goldcrest 51 brand to commemorate fifty-one years in the brewing business, quickly establishing it as the plant's flagship label.

For breweriana collectors, this can serves as an iconic piece of Mid-South brewing heritage. The graphic presentation prominently showcases the "Goldcrest 51" lettering alongside classic heraldic brand cresting. Variations exist across surviving specimens, reflecting manufacturing shifts over the course of the brand's packaging history. Collectors encounter cans bearing the mandatory Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement as well as non-IRTP variations released in later runs. Additionally, differences appear in container maker marks, with manufacturing credited across fabricators such as Continental Can Company and Crown Cork & Seal.

Following the closure of the Tennessee Brewing Company in 1954, original cone tops from this historic Memphis landmark have remained highly sought-after artifacts of regional Southern breweriana.
