Golden Age Beer Cone Top Can

Fernwood's Golden Age Cone Top

The Golden Age Beer cone top container stands as one of the most sought-after artifacts from the short-lived Fernwood Brewing Company of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Operating as the sole commercial brewery in Lansdowne following the repeal of Prohibition, Fernwood produced a limited catalog of canned offerings before closing its doors.

Design and Heritage

The label graphics for Golden Age Beer share a distinct layout with Fernwood's companion brand, Wolf's Beer, demonstrating the brewery's unified visual marketing across its canned portfolio. Promotional material from the era highlighted the brew as being crafted from pure Springfield water, a regional marketing touchpoint that tied the brand closely to Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The container also bears the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement standard for the period of the brewery's operation.

Collectibility and Market Presence

Due to the relatively brief operational lifespan of the Fernwood facility and its modest regional distribution, surviving examples of the Golden Age cone top are exceptionally difficult for collectors of Pennsylvania breweriana to acquire. While variations across promotional material and canned releases from the brewery have been documented among specialists, authentic Fernwood containers from Lansdowne command substantial interest whenever they surface in specialized auctions and collector exchanges.
