Golden Brau Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Harvard's Golden Brau Beer Can

Produced by the Harvard Brewing Company of Lowell, Massachusetts, the Golden Brau Premium Beer flat top represents a distinguished chapter in New England brewing history. Originating in the late nineteenth century as the Consumer's Brewing Company before being renamed in 1898, Harvard Brewing developed a strong regional identity heavily shaped by its German-American brewing workforce. The brewery famously endured local political controversies and one of the largest Prohibition-era enforcement raids in New England history before resuming production in the post-repeal era.

Golden Brau was marketed to appeal to consumer demand for classic German-style lagers. The graphic presentation highlights this heritage through ornate typography paired with heraldic motifs. The label design prominently features a metallic gold background, bold red and black lettering, and a distinctive heraldic shield crest.

For collectors, the Golden Brau label is noted for subtle graphic variations across different production runs. Minor differences can be found within the crest emblem, where some examples feature initials in the shield while others omit them. Additional differences appear in the mandatory brewery text and side panel details. Manufactured in partnership with the American Can Company, this piece stands as an artifact from one of Massachusetts' major mid-century packaging operations prior to the brewery closing its doors in the 1950s.
