Golden Crown Extra Pale Dry Can

The Golden Crown Extra Pale Dry Beer 12 oz tab top can represents a notable chapter in West Coast brewing history, packaged under the General Brewing Corporation banner with its Los Angeles, California facility designation. General Brewing, historically tied to major regional operations throughout the Pacific Coast, utilized the Golden Crown label as an accessible regional offering during the post-prohibition canning era.

Design and Branding

The visual composition of the Golden Crown can centers around a prominent heraldic crown emblem accompanied by bold typography highlighting the "Extra Pale Dry" designation. The striking graphics—typically pairing crisp white, gold, and contrasting accents—were engineered to provide maximum shelf visibility alongside other regional value brands of the era.

Brewery Context and Manufacturing

During this era of production, General Brewing maintained major facilities across California and the Pacific Northwest, with packaging lines operating in locations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Vancouver, Washington. The Los Angeles plant played a vital role in supplying the sprawling Southern California market.

For breweriana enthusiasts, mandatory text found near the seam and rim provides significant historical context. Variations exist across production runs, with cans bearing single-city Los Angeles brewery text as well as multi-city mandatory listings that reflect General Brewing's broader manufacturing footprint.

Collector Significance

Among collectors specializing in West Coast breweriana, Golden Crown stands as a recognizable artifact of mid-twentieth-century American contract and regional brewing consolidation. Its presence in collections highlights the diverse brand portfolios managed by Pacific Coast brewing conglomerates.
