Golden Grain Beer Flat Top Can

Maier's Golden Grain Flat Top Can

The Golden Grain Beer flat top can is a notable piece of California brewing heritage, produced by the Maier Brewing Company in Los Angeles, California. Maier was well known throughout the western United States for producing an extensive catalog of regional brands, contract labels, and value offerings from its historic facility on East Commercial Street alongside its flagship Brew 102.

Golden Grain was marketed with the prominent tagline "The Harvest Beer," utilizing agricultural imagery that highlighted traditional brewing grains. The graphic design features warm gold and brown tones centered around illustrations of grain stalks and wheat wreaths, establishing an earthy, harvest-themed identity on retail shelves.

For breweriana collectors, the Golden Grain can represents a classic example of Maier's mid-century packaging operations. The cans were manufactured by major suppliers of the period, including the National Can Company. Variations exist across production runs, featuring differences in mandatory text formatting, layout alignments, and subtle shifts in the metallic gold background tones.

Because many of Maier's secondary labels saw targeted distribution across the West Coast, the Golden Grain flat top remains an enduring favorite for collectors focusing on California brewing history and mid-century can design.
