Golden Lager Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Maier's Golden Lager Flat Top

The Golden Lager Premium Beer flat top can was produced by the Maier Brewing Company in Los Angeles, California. Operating out of its historic facility on East Commercial Street in downtown Los Angeles, Maier was one of Southern California's longest-running and most prolific independent breweries. In the post-World War II era, the company sustained high-volume production by complementing its flagship Brew 102 with an extensive portfolio of contract brews, house brands, and regional private labels distributed to supermarkets and grocery retailers across California and neighboring Western states.

Golden Lager was one of several proprietary labels packaged by Maier during the late 1950s and early 1960s. The can design centers on a bold red oval showcasing the brand name in clean block lettering, surmounted by a split-field shield containing a Gothic "GL" monogram. Flanking the central medallion are stylized golden barley stalks connected by decorative scrollwork, with the slogan "We use only the choicest brewing ingredients" rendered in flowing script across the lower rim.

Because Maier focused heavily on regional contract packaging and localized distribution, many of its secondary brands had shorter production runs compared to major national labels. Today, Golden Lager flat tops stand as classic artifacts of mid-century Southern California brewing history and West Coast canning heritage.
