Golden Velvet Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Maier's Golden Velvet Flat Top

The Golden Velvet Premium Beer flat top can represents a classic era of mid-century brewing in Southern California. Produced by the Maier Brewing Company at its long-standing facility on Commercial Street in Los Angeles, Golden Velvet was among the brewery's portfolio of proprietary labels marketed across California and neighboring western states.

Maier Brewing Company was one of the defining fixtures of industrial Los Angeles brewing history. Established in the late nineteenth century, Maier weathered Prohibition and emerged in the post-war era as a high-volume regional producer. While widely recognized for its flagship Brew 102, Maier aggressively expanded its canning operations by offering a broad selection of specialty, house, and contract brands to capture different segments of the growing retail market.

Golden Velvet was packaged with an upscale, eye-catching presentation featuring metallic gold tones accented by deep red graphics and bold mid-century typography. This specific version is distinguished by its lithography layout, featuring the contents statement printed to the left of the can's seam. Known manufacturing variations exist across different canning runs for Golden Velvet, displaying subtle differences in text placement, seam construction, and mandatory labeling elements. For breweriana collectors focused on California and West Coast brewing heritage, this flat top stands as a classic artifact of Maier's mid-century packaging history.
