Grain Belt Golden Beer Flat Top Can

Grain Belt Golden Beer Flat Top

The Grain Belt Golden Beer flat top can is a classic piece of Upper Midwest brewing heritage, produced by the Minneapolis Brewing Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bearing the historic Grain Belt name—a trademark rooted in the brewery's flagship offerings—the can features the brand's signature diamond emblem set over a bottle-cap graphic.

During the mid-twentieth century, Minneapolis Brewing Company modernized its packaging lineup, adopting flat top cans for its broader distribution across Minnesota and surrounding states. The Golden Beer design features striking red, gold, and white lithography that mirrored the company's extensive tavern displays, print campaigns, and regional advertising.

For breweriana collectors, this can is notable for several manufacturing variations. Documented differences include variations in state-mandated alcohol content statements as well as subtle changes in the American Can Company "Keglined" trademark block and plant manufacturing codes. Additionally, surplus lithographed flat sheets preserved by factory personnel were later rolled and seamed into finished cylinders, creating an interesting historical chapter for can enthusiasts.

Representing one of the Twin Cities' most celebrated historic brewing companies, the Grain Belt Golden Beer flat top can remains an enduring staple of mid-century regional breweriana.
