After weathering Prohibition, the facility re-emerged in 1933 as William Gretz Brewing Company and grew to become one of the city's most prominent independent producers, achieving peak output in the late 1940s. As industry consolidation intensified throughout the 1950s, smaller regional operations faced insurmountable pressure from heavily advertised national brands, leading Gretz to halt brewing in 1960.
