Hacker's Amberlite XXX Ale Flat Top Can

Hacker's Amberlite XXX Ale Can

Produced for the Hacker Brewing Company in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the Hacker's Amberlite XXX Ale flat top can holds an esteemed place among New England breweriana collectors. The can represents the final era of commercial brewing at the historic 609 South Union Street facility, which originally operated under the Cold Spring Brewing Company name.

Following mid-century corporate reorganizations, the Lawrence plant operated under the Hacker moniker for only a brief period before operations ceased completely. Because the company maintained brewing and canning operations for such a short window, canned products bearing the Hacker name were distributed regionally in limited quantities. This limited distribution and short lifespan make surviving examples of the Amberlite XXX Ale can particularly prized by East Coast collectors.

Design and Manufacturing

The container was produced in a 12-ounce format and manufactured by the American Can Company, often displaying the manufacturer's plant identification marks along the side seam. Visually, the design incorporates prominent "XXX" ale markings alongside bold typography showcasing the Hacker family name and the Amberlite product branding.

Regional specialists also note minor text and graphical variations across factory manufacturing runs. Given that Lawrence was home to only a few brewing operations across its entire industrial history, cans from Hacker Brewing Company serve as important artifacts of Massachusetts' independent post-Prohibition brewing heritage.
