Hacker's Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Hacker's Extra Dry Beer Flat Top

The Hacker's Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can is a highly sought-after piece of New England breweriana, produced for the Hacker Brewing Company of Lawrence, Massachusetts. The brand's origin is tied closely to the historic Cold Spring Brewing Company, which operated out of a multi-story facility on South Union Street in Lawrence. Following corporate reorganizations around the mid-20th century, the plant operated under the Hacker Brewing Co. trade name for only a brief period before operations ceased.

Because Hacker operated under this moniker for such a brief window, canned products bearing the Hacker name were distributed in limited quantities across regional markets. This limited distribution window makes the Extra Dry flat top an elusive find for East Coast can collectors.

Design and Manufacturer Details

The container was manufactured by the American Can Company, typically displaying the manufacturer's plant insignia on the side seam. The graphic presentation centers on bold typography highlighting the "Extra Dry" designation alongside the Hacker family name. The brewery issued variations with minor graphic and text adjustments over the course of production, adding depth for regional specialists studying factory-floor variations.

Today, the Hacker's Extra Dry flat top stands as a classic representative of Massachusetts' post-war independent brewing landscape, capturing the final chapters of commercial brewing operations in Lawrence.
