Hanley's Extra Pale Ale Crowntainer

Historic Hanley Extra Pale Ale Can

The Hanley's Extra Pale Ale Crowntainer was packaged by The James Hanley Company located in Providence, Rhode Island. As one of the preeminent regional breweries in New England, James Hanley maintained a substantial presence throughout the East Coast brewing scene.

Design and Branding

The can's visual presentation features bold typography emphasizing the "Hanley's Extra Pale Ale" brand name alongside the brewery's established corporate insignia. The graphic composition incorporates a striking color scheme composed of vivid blue, white, and red accents set against the exposed metallic finish on the cone neck and chime.

Documented Variations

For breweriana collectors, this can presents several documented variations resulting from manufacturing updates and changing federal labeling regulations. Some examples feature the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) mandatory statement, while others do not. Additionally, collectors note color shade variations in the blue background, which range from a bright royal blue to deeper purple-tinted finishes, along with minor adjustments in mandatory brewery text placement.

As a classic artifact from Rhode Island's mid-century brewing industry, this can remains a highly collectible staple of East Coast breweriana history.
