Hanley Select Export Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Rhode Island's Select Export Can

The Hanley Select Export Lager Beer flat top represents an important chapter in Rhode Island breweriana. Produced by the James Hanley Company of Providence, Rhode Island, this can highlights one of the most prominent regional brewing operations in southern New England.

While the James Hanley Company was historically celebrated throughout New England for its ales, the brewery also developed dedicated lager brands to meet changing consumer preferences across the Northeast. The Select Export label was designed to project a premium image in retail markets, distinguishing itself with refined typography and a crisp, clean graphic presentation.

Manufactured using the American Can Company's patented canning process, the container features classic manufacturer markings and metallic detailing typical of the era's regional packaging. The graphic layout centers on bold Hanley branding, emphasizing the "Select Export" moniker in contrast against the background.

For breweriana enthusiasts, the can holds special appeal due to the regional prominence of the historic Providence plant located along Jackson and Fountain Streets. Variations of Hanley's export labels exist among collectors, reflecting adjustments in metallic inks, mandatory text, and canning seam configurations across production runs. The Hanley Select Export flat top remains a celebrated artifact of Rhode Island's rich brewing heritage.
