Hedrick Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Hedrick Lager Beer Flat Top

The Hedrick Lager Beer Flat Top Can was produced by the Hedrick Brewing Company in Albany, New York. Hedrick held a prominent place in upstate New York brewing history, tracing its heritage back to the nineteenth century when German immigrant John F. Hedrick established the original brewery. Following the repeal of Prohibition, the company was reincorporated and operated under the leadership of longtime Albany political boss Daniel P. O'Connell, who served as company president and treasurer.

Hedrick's strong ties to the local political machine made its beers a fixture throughout Albany-area taverns and neighborhood venues, where stocking the brand was closely intertwined with local commerce. This entrenched regional presence makes Hedrick cans significant artifacts of Capital District brewing history.

The can design prominently displays bold typography with the Hedrick name, accompanied by the brewery's signature promotional slogan, "Still The Best". Manufactured in standard steel format with canning work associated with the American Can Company, the can carries the familiar "Keglined" trademark emblem.

Among breweriana collectors, several label variations exist across different production runs. These differences feature subtle shifts in the mandatory text layout, the presence or omission of alcohol content statements, and minor adjustments to the graphic trim and color fields. As a historic link to Albany's mid-century industrial and political landscape, the Hedrick Lager Beer flat top remains a celebrated piece for regional and specialty can collections.
