Heidelberg Light Pilsener Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Carling Heidelberg 16 Oz Can

Originally established by the Columbia Brewing Company in Tacoma, Washington, the Heidelberg brand was a prominent Pacific Northwest regional label. In 1958, the Carling Brewing Company acquired the brewery and integrated Heidelberg into its nationwide production network. This acquisition enabled Carling to brew and package the brand at several of its regional facilities across the country, including its operation in Atlanta, Georgia.

This 16-ounce pint-sized tab top can represents Carling's larger-format packaging for Heidelberg Light Pilsener Beer. While standard 12-ounce cans formed the core of consumer sales, 16-ounce cans served venues such as taverns, concessions, and sporting events where single large servings were favored. The visual layout incorporates Heidelberg's signature script branding and heraldic crest imagery alongside the mandatory plant listing identifying Carling's Atlanta, Georgia location.

Among breweriana collectors, 16-ounce cans from Carling's decentralized plants are particularly sought after, as large-format production volumes were generally lower than standard 12-ounce runs. Variations exist among surviving examples, reflecting differences in plant mandatory city listings and canning manufacturer markings from Carling's southeastern distribution network.
