Heileman's Old Style Lager Beer Cone Top Can

Old Style Lager Cone Top Overview

Produced by the G. Heileman Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin, the Heileman's Old Style Lager Beer cone top can represents a foundational piece of Midwestern brewing heritage. Old Style originally emerged as the flagship brand of G. Heileman under the leadership of Johanna Heileman, one of the earliest female brewery chief executives in the United States.

The can design showcases the brand's traditional shield emblem, bold gothic lettering, and the familiar signature cursive script associated with the brewery's heritage along the Mississippi River in La Crosse. Manufactured using Continental Can Company's Cap Sealed process, the can was distributed across the Midwest as the brewery expanded its regional reach.

For breweriana collectors, this can is known for several variations across production runs. Documented differences include variations in tax-paid phrasing, such as Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statements, mandatory alcohol content labeling, and slight shifts in typography. In addition, collectors note profile differences across manufacturing batches, including flat-bottom inverted rim designs, low-profile cone geometries, and text notations such as 'Same As Bottle' beneath the upper seam.

Old Style's deep cultural roots in Wisconsin and neighboring metropolitan markets make this cone top can a standout centerpiece of pre- and post-Prohibition-era American breweriana history.
