Heileman's Old Style Lager Beer Cone Top Can

Heileman's Old Style Cone Top

The Heileman's Old Style Lager Beer Cone Top Can is a premier example of mid-twentieth-century packaging from the G. Heileman Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, this can represents the regional market strength of the Old Style label throughout the Upper Midwest.

Label Graphics and Branding

The front face prominently showcases the traditional Old Style shield crest surrounded by bold typography and classic scrollwork. A signature element of the design is the facsimile signature of the brewery's founder accompanied by the guarantee statement, "None Genuine Without This Signature". Side panels carry the manufacturer's "Cap Sealed" insignia alongside required brewery contact and licensing markings.

Known Variations

Collectors recognize a range of variations for this can, distinguished by changes in regulatory labeling, manufacturing profiles, and subtle lithographic differences:

• Tax and Alcohol Disclaimers: Versions exist bearing the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement, as well as distinct state-mandated alcohol statements such as "Contains 4 Percentum Of Alcohol By Volume" or "Does Not Contain More Than 4% Alcohol By Weight".
• Can Profile and Bottom Construction: Production spans low-profile cone styles, early flat-bottom formats, and concave-bottom iterations.
• Color and Graphic Details: Subtle shifts in ink tones across the shield emblem, gold border accents, and text alignment on the legal panels appear between different manufacturing runs.

Collector Significance

As the flagship brand of La Crosse's brewing heritage, the Old Style cone top remains a central piece for enthusiasts documenting Wisconsin breweriana and mid-century metal packaging design.
