Heublein Velvet Glove Malt Liquor 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Heublein Velvet Glove Overview

The Heublein Velvet Glove Malt Liquor 12 oz can represents an intriguing period of corporate expansion and brand experimentation in American brewing history. Produced by the Theo. Hamm Brewing Company in St. Paul, Minnesota, this label came to fruition following the acquisition of the Hamm's brewery by the distilled spirits conglomerate Heublein, Inc.

During the expansion of the malt liquor market, Heublein elected to feature its own parent corporate identity prominently on the container rather than marketing the beverage under the traditional Theodore Hamm moniker. This strategy aimed to position Velvet Glove as an upscale, modern alternative in the competitive malt liquor sector, bridging the gap between traditional brewing and distilled spirits marketing.

The label design is distinguished by bold typography centered around the Velvet Glove moniker alongside the parent company's branding. For breweriana collectors, variations are documented across different manufacturing runs, reflecting differing metal compositions—including straight-steel and aluminum formats—as well as regional mandatory state alcohol disclosure statements.

Because production occurred during Heublein's tenure owning the St. Paul facility, the Velvet Glove tab top stands as a noteworthy artifact of corporate brand crossover in the American brewing industry.
