Hi-brau Beer Flat Top Can

Jos. Huber Hi-Brau Flat Top Can

The Hi-brau Beer flat top can was produced by the Joseph Huber Brewing Company of Monroe, Wisconsin, situated in Green County—a region widely celebrated as "Wisconsin's Little Switzerland." The brewery itself traces its heritage back to the mid-19th century, standing as one of the longest continuously operating brewing sites in the United States before transitioning into the modern craft era.

Graphic Design & Regional Identity

The design of the Hi-brau flat top strongly reflects the Swiss and Germanic cultural heritage of Monroe. The label artwork features alpine scenery, Bavarian-style typography, and classic Swiss chalet motifs. Prominent slogans integrated into the label include "Brewed in Wisconsin's Little Switzerland" and "Wisconsin Brewed - All Grain," highlighting local agricultural roots and traditional brewing methods.

Collector Notes & Variations

Among breweriana collectors, the can is recognized for its vibrant metallic lithography and clean mid-century trade dress. Production runs feature notable variations, including differences in side-panel mandatory text, alcohol statement placements, and manufacturer marks from can suppliers like the Continental Can Company. These packaging variations make the label an essential piece representing mid-century regional Wisconsin brewing history.
