Hi Lo Lager Beer Flat Top Can

The Hi Lo Lager Beer flat top can represents a notable chapter in the history of Northern California contract brewing and regional distribution. Packaged by Grace Bros. Brewing Co. in Santa Rosa, California, this can was part of the brewery's extensive strategy to supply grocery chains, distributors, and independent retailers with proprietary and competitive store labels.

Grace Bros. Brewing Co., situated on Second Street in Santa Rosa, established a major presence throughout California and neighboring regions. Following the repeal of Prohibition and modernizations to its facility, the brewery competed directly against large regional powerhouses. To maximize packaging capacity and expand market reach, Grace Bros. frequently produced diverse brands alongside their primary flagship offerings, packaging the same regional brews under varied trade names to hit different retail price points.

Hi Lo Lager was packaged in standard steel flat top containers manufactured by the American Can Company, carrying the company's trademark "Keglined" insignia. The graphic layout features bold mid-century typography and clean color blocking tailored to catch the eye of grocery shoppers.

Among breweriana collectors, the can is highly appreciated as part of the rich tapestry of Santa Rosa brewing heritage. Grace Bros. cans hold particular appeal for collectors specializing in California and Pacific Coast regional brewing artifacts. Label variations are known to exist across production runs, reflecting slight adjustments in canning marks, mandatory statements, and seam construction.
