Hillman's Superb Beer Flat Top Can

Hillman's Superb Flat Top Can

The Hillman's Superb Beer Flat Top Can was produced by the United States Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois. Created as a private-label offering for Hillman's—a well-known Chicago grocery store chain—this can represents a notable era of mid-century contract brewing and supermarket retailing in the Midwest.

Design and Manufacturer Details

The can features bold, classic branding highlighted by the promotional tagline "America's Premium Beer". Manufactured by the National Can Company, the container displays clean graphic labeling tailored for prominence on department and grocery store shelves. It was issued without an Internal Revenue Tax Paid (non-IRTP) statement.

Production and Label Variations

To supply their retail locations across the Chicago metropolitan area, Hillman's utilized several local brewing facilities. While this specific container bears the mandatory brewery text for the United States Brewing Company, variations exist that credit other historic Chicago operations, including the Best Brewing Company and the Empire Brewing Company.

For collectors of Midwestern and Chicago breweriana, this can serves as an evocative piece of local retail and packaging history, documenting the era when regional grocery outlets maintained their own proprietary beer labels.
