Hochberg Beer Flat Top Can

Hochberg Beer Flat Top Overview

The Hochberg Beer flat top can represents a notable piece of eastern Pennsylvania brewing history produced by Louis F. Neuweiler's Sons in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Neuweiler was one of the Lehigh Valley's premier independent regional operations, functioning out of its iconic brewery complex at Front and Gordon Streets and known locally for the regional catchphrase "Nix Besser" (Pennsylvania Dutch for "None Better").

While Neuweiler was widely recognized for its namesake light lager and traditional ales, the brewery introduced secondary labels like Hochberg to diversify its offerings in local taprooms and retail markets. Packaging Hochberg in flat tops allowed the Allentown brewer to compete in regional distribution channels throughout Pennsylvania during an era when local breweries contended with rapidly expanding national shipping giants.

Collector Notes

Neuweiler breweriana remains a popular focus among regional collectors, with cans from the brewery's specialty and secondary product lines holding significant appeal. Known variations exist across different manufacturing runs, showcasing subtle differences in canning details and lithographic printing. Following the closure of the Neuweiler facility in the late 1960s, cans bearing the Hochberg label have become desirable relics representing Allentown's storied industrial brewing past.
