Hofbrau Beer Flat Top Can

Allentown's Hofbrau Flat Top Can

The Hofbrau Beer flat top can represents a notable chapter in Pennsylvania breweriana, originating from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Although labeled under the Hofbrau Brewing Company name, this entity operated as an alternate trade identity for the historic Horlacher Brewing Company. Horlacher frequently utilized secondary trade names such as Hofbrau to market proprietary brands and regional contract lines throughout the Mid-Atlantic market.

Manufactured with the American Can Company "A" maker's mark, the can showcases mid-century German-American styling. The visual design emphasizes traditional European brewing heritage, featuring classic heraldic crest elements alongside bold Old English typography.

For breweriana enthusiasts, this can stands out due to its tie to Allentown's rich brewing heritage. Operating out of Horlacher's long-running facility on North 3rd Street, the Hofbrau imprint was tied to both local distribution and various private-label projects before the plant ceased operations in the 1970s.

Variations exist among surviving examples, differing primarily in canning line markings, manufacturer logos, and subtle shifts in color registration across print batches. It remains a prized piece for collectors focusing on Pennsylvania brewing history and classic flat top breweriana.
