Holstein Centennial Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Holstein Centennial Beer Can

The Holstein Centennial Beer 12 oz tab top can was issued to celebrate the centennial jubilee of the town of Holstein, Iowa, marking one hundred years from 1882 to 1982. Brewed and packaged by the August Schell Brewing Company of New Ulm, Minnesota, this can highlights Schell’s significant role as a regional contract and commemorative brewer throughout the Upper Midwest.

During the peak years of civic commemorative can production, small-town anniversary committees frequently partnered with regional independent breweries to create custom collector cans for centennial parades, historical pageants, and community festivals. Schell's New Ulm facility was one of the most prolific Midwestern breweries in fulfilling these limited-run civic contracts.

The graphic design of the Holstein Centennial can prominently features vintage architectural illustrations depicting historic town landmarks and civic buildings from the settlement's early days. The artwork is accented by commemorative banner typography declaring the 1882–1982 centennial milestone alongside mandatory brewery identification crediting August Schell in New Ulm.

For collectors of regional breweriana and town festival issues, this can serves as an enduring artifact of small-town Midwestern heritage and August Schell’s storied tradition of localized specialty canning.
