Home Premium Quality Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Pocono Home Premium Beer Can

The Home Premium Quality Beer 12 oz tab top can represents a notable piece of Pennsylvania brewing history. The can bears the mandatory brewery identification of the Pocono Brewing Company in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. In practice, "Pocono Brewing Co." functioned as a trade name and alternate operating identity for The Lion, Inc., a prominent regional brewery situated in northeastern Pennsylvania's anthracite coal region.

Throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, The Lion Brewery sustained long-term commercial operations in Wilkes-Barre by diversifying into private-label contracts, house brands, and regional budget labels. The "Home" label served as one of these value-oriented lines produced to supply grocery networks, distributors, and regional markets.

Design and Production

The label graphics center around the prominent "Home" brand typography paired with classic "Premium Quality" banner artwork. As canning container technologies evolved across the industry, cans for the brand were produced in seamless aluminum formats with pull-tab and ecology-style opening lids, manufactured by prominent container makers such as Reynolds Aluminum.

Collector Notes and Variations

For breweriana collectors, the brand offers interesting differences across production runs. Variations exist regarding brewery address text, mandatory side-panel statements, recycling notices, and lid seam specifications. Because Pocono-labeled products were distributed across multiple regional territories, cans may also exhibit differences in state statutory markings and alcohol labeling requirements.
