Hudepohl Pure Lager Cone Top Can

The Hudepohl Pure Lager Beer cone top represents an iconic piece of Cincinnati brewing heritage, manufactured for the Hudepohl Brewing Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. Produced by the Continental Can Company under their patented Cap-Sealed line, this high-profile container is widely pursued by regional breweriana collectors and packaging historians.

Historical Significance

Following the repeal of Prohibition, Hudepohl grew into one of the dominant brewing forces in the Queen City. The Pure Lager label served as a flagship brand for the brewery, reflecting traditional brewing heritage in a competitive local market. When modern canned packaging expanded throughout the industry, Hudepohl packaged its Pure Lager in high-profile cone top containers featuring the brewery's classic script and bold graphic identity.

Design and Collector Variations

The can features prominent Hudepohl Pure Lager branding flanked by metallic accents and standard Continental Can Company Cap-Sealed paneling. Collectors have documented variations of this can in the hobby. These variations include differences in mandatory tax text—such as cans bearing the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement versus non-IRTP releases—as well as minor typography adjustments in the side-panel manufacturing notices and slight differences in the metallic background hues.

Within Cincinnati breweriana circles, the Pure Lager cone top remains a quintessential showcase of mid-twentieth-century industrial lithography and a centerpiece of Ohio brewing history.
