Illini Beer 12 Oz Tab/Stay Top Can

Illini Football Commemorative Can

The Illini Beer 12 oz can was issued under the Great Lakes label in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and distributed by FSI as a piece of collegiate sports memorabilia. Created to celebrate the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, the can incorporates the school's traditional orange, blue, and white color scheme, featuring team iconography alongside the Illini football schedule printed directly onto the body.

During an era when sports-themed commemorative cans gained significant popularity among collegiate fan bases, regional canning operations such as Great Lakes produced specialty cans aimed at alumni, tailgaters, and sports collectors. Great Lakes in Fort Wayne was associated with several commemorative projects, including event and regional tribute cans.

For breweriana and sports memorabilia collectors alike, the Illini Beer can represents an engaging crossover collectible. Variations of Illini Beer exist across different Midwestern contract packaging operations, with this Fort Wayne edition standing as a notable piece of collegiate sports marketing and regional breweriana history.
